Place: Santa Rita Room, Student Union Memorial Center

Abstract

The first part of the talk is an introduction into the two methodologies for sequencing genomes. One methodology uses a physical map, which is typically constructed with the FPC (Finger Printed Contigs) software, whereas the second approach does not use a map. This introduction will include the history, politics and pros and cons of the two methods. The second part of the talk will cover finding genes and determining the function of genes from a computational point of view.
