Configuring Linux for UAWiFi or UAPublic
UAWiFi
UITS has instructions for configuring UAWiFi on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OSX here.
OSCR has more information on UAWiFi here.
There are some postings on Linux installation on OSCR's wireless forum.
You must register for wireless access on UA's networks.
While the Lab Staff does not support UAWiFi, the following information may be helpful.
To configure UAWiFi on Linux, use NetworkManager.
- be sure the wireless interface is on
- select UAWiFi
- You should be prompted to fill in configuration information
Notes:
- You may need to try various combinations of
Wireless Security set to "WPA Enterprise" or "WPA2 Enterprise"
with
Key Type = "AES-CCMP" or "TKIP"
- The CA Certificate File location varies with each Linux distribution
- For Fedora, it is /usr/share/purple/ca-certs
- For Suse, it is /etc/ssl/certs
- You may be prompted for password for your "default keyring"
- connections may be intermittent due to problems with the wireless adapter drivers and the way they work with WPA.
- OSCR may also be able to help with Linux configurations.
UAPublic
Configuring UAPublic is much simpler than UAWiFi because there is no authentication required. However, this makes it less secure and more limited in what services it supports. See the UITS UAPublic page for more information.
To configure UAPublic on Linux, use NetworkManager
- be sure the wireless interface is on
- select UAPublic
- open a web browser -- it will redirect to the UAPublic connection page
- click "I Accept" to accept the Terms and Conditions of UAPublic
