Gould 701 Multimedia Cart Instructions
Using the ceiling mounted projector:
The projector system can display from:- desktop computer (in cabinet)
- laptop computer
- ELMO
- DVD/VCR (in cabinet)
Switches to turn projector on/off and raise/lower screen are on the wall behind the podium.
Using the desktop computer
The desktop computer handel runs either Windows or Linux.To switch from Linux to Windows:
- click on "Options" (lower left) and select "Restart", then click "Restart" at the confirmation prompt
- when the computer reboots, select Windows from the boot menu (using up/down arrow keys) and press Enter
- press Ctrl-Alt-Del, click "OK" at the CSC Account Policy message, select "Shutdown…", select "Restart", then click "OK"
- when the computer reboots, select Ubuntu from the boot menu (using up/down arrow keys) and press Enter
- Computer Science faculty, staff, and students can use their CS accounts to login to Windows or Linux.
- Anyone can use the 'visitor' account under Windows (see label on computer monitor)
- turn on projector and lower screen using wall switches
- select "desktop" on the projector control menu
Using a laptop computer
- use cables on 'mouse' side of podium to connect laptop
- VGA cable for video
- speaker cable for speakers on podium (if desired)
- network connection (Computer Science personnel only)
- select "laptop" on the projector control menu
- press a key sequence to tell the laptop to send a signal out its external video port (e.g., Fn-F5 or Fn-F7)
- select the "Mirror Displays" option (Macs) to have the projector display the full image
- adjust your laptop's resolution to match the projector (1024x768, 800x600, or 640x480)
Using the ELMO projection system:
- turn on ELMO unit (switch on rear)
- select "elmo" on the projector control menu
Using the DVD/VCR:
- turn on Toshiba DVD/VCR unit (in cabinet)
- select DVD or VCR on Toshiba unit with DVD/VCR button
- select "vhs/dvd" on the projector control menu
- use buttons/volume control on front of Toshiba unit to control playback and volume (sound will come out of speakers in corners of room)
Tips and Troubleshooting:
- For best results, use 'projector control' software to switch between different image sources.
- The source mayalso be selected manually using the Extron selector switch (bottom shelf in cabinet).
- For desktop or laptop use, select using the "desktop pc" or "laptop" buttons on the selector switch.
- For ELMO or DVD/VCR, select using the "elmo" or "dvd/vcr" buttons on the selector switch. In addition, the projector image source needs to be changed by using the "video" or "computer" buttons on the bottom of the projector to cycle through the choices.

- desktop monitor shows only desktop images (prior to February 2010, it would display laptop output also)
- You can switch between the desktop machine handel and your laptop using the buttons on the Extron selector switch.
- In some cases the projector will display in green only. When this occurs, set the Projector "computer" or "video" setting per the table above -or- use the projector control menu on handel to select "desktop" or "laptop".
- DVDs can be played through the DVD drive in handel or your laptop.
- Sound can be output through the computer speakers on the podium from handel or your laptop. To connect the speakers to handel, plug the speaker's mini-phone plug into the black speaker extension cable (on 'mouse' side of podium). To connect the speakers to your laptop, connect the speaker's mini-phone plug into the speaker output jack on your laptop.

Please remember to:
- log off handel
- turn off DVD/VCR and/or ELMO (if you were using them)
- turn off the projector and raise the screen
- report problems immediately to lab* so they can be resolved before the next class/user
