Accommodation (Hotel and Room-Sharing) Information

To help conference attendees begin their travel planning, we are happy to provide the following information about the hotels which will have blocks of rooms available at special conference rates. And, as SIGCSE has done in the past, we have a roommate matching website to help pair you with a roommate to reduce the cost of attending the symposium.

Hotels

With the conference now just three weeks away, our contract rates with the Marriott, Sheraton, and Choo Choo are no longer in effect. To help attendees find accommodations for the symposium, SIGCSE has negotiated conference rates with The Chattanoogan and the Days Inn Chattanooga - Rivergate hotels in the convention center area. Another option is the La Quinta Inn Downtown. Details on these three hotels are available below.

The Chattanooga Choo Choo Holiday Inn

(1400 Market Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402-4489. Phone: 1-423-226-5000)

February 11th Update: The discounted room rates may no longer be available.

(Reminder: We recommend use of the CVB reservation page (http://www.chattanoogafun.com/SIGCSE2009) for making your reservations at the Choo Choo. It is the surest way to get the conference rate.)

The The Chattanooga Choo Choo Holiday Inn, home of the famous train, is an affordable family destination. In addition to normal hotel rooms (available to SIGCSE attendees for just $89 (USD) per night), for a little more money train enthusiasts can stay overnight in train cars ($129 (USD) per night). The Choo Choo has a charming garden cafe. This hotel is further from the Convention Center than the others, but it is just 15 minutes away on foot and is also served by the the free Electric Shuttle service. The Choo Choo offers unique shops, a game room for kids, one indoor and two outdoor pools, free internet access (wireless in the main hotel, wired in the train cars), and a model railroad museum. 2009 is the 100-year anniversary of the Train Station, which today serves as the hotel lobby. Pet- and child-friendly, this hotel offers a free shuttle to/from the Chattanooga airport. When you are ready for the shuttle, call the hotel from the phone in the baggage claim area (or call 1-423-266-5000 directly) to request it. Please visit the taxi section of our Travel Information page for details on reduced conference rates for taxi service to and from the Chattanooga airport.

If you choose to make your reservation with the Choo Choo directly, our group code is 'SIG'. Mention this code to get the special room rates mentioned above. If you have trouble reserving one of the train car rooms through the on-line system, please email Joy Nolan (Joyn@choochoo.com) of the Choo Choo's sales department directly.

Roommate Matching

We recognize that many SIGCSE attendees work at schools with very limited -- even nonexistent! -- travel budgets. To help you reduce your cost to participate in the symposium, we are happy to once again provide assistance with roommate matching: The SIGCSE 2009 Roommate Database. Once registered, you can input your preferences and see other registrants who have compatible preferences. The rest is up to you!

The roommate database is hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology Department of Computer Science and is administered by Paul Tymann. Please contact Paul with any questions that you may have about this service.
