Symposium Reception

The traditional Thursday evening SIGCSE Symposium Reception will be held this year at the Tennessee Aquarium!

Opened in 1992, the Tennessee Aquarium is a non-profit institution and a major attraction in downtown Chattanooga. Located on the south bank of the Tennessee River, the Aquarium is actually two buildings. The River Journey building is the original structure. The Ocean Journey building was opened in 2005. Combined, they hold 1.1 million gallons of water, and host an average of one million visitors per year. We suggest that you allow two hours for a full tour of the facilities.

As a registered symposium attendee, your admission to the Aquarium for the reception will be free! Planning is still in the early stages, but expect to find a ticket in your registration packet.

The reception will offer a variety of complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Vegan selections will be available. With the drink ticket from your registration packet, your first beverage (beer, wine, or soft drink) is free. The exact menu will be set by the start of the symposium. We will supply the menu and a map of the food locations here before the conference starts.

The Aquarium is a refreshing 20 minute walk from the convention center. We will have busses making the round-trip between the Convention Center and the Aquarium starting at 7:00 p.m. In addition, Chattanooga's free electric downtown shuttle offers stops just north of the Convention Center (at the Marriott) and just south of the Aquarium (at Shuttle Park North).
