About Us

Message from the Department Head

The Department of Computer Science has a vibrant history of nearly forty years on campus. With 16 full-time faculty members and around 60 graduate and 1,000 undergraduate students, we offer a world-class environment for learning and research where your professor knows your name, where you can start doing research from your sophomore year, and where you'll learn cutting-edge advances from the very people who discovered them.

We are part of the UA College of Science, studying and working in the Gould-Simpson Building where the camera for the Mars Rover was built.

Our courses and our research span established areas of systems software, databases, networking, security, algorithms, and computer graphics, as well as emerging areas such as bioinformatics, cloud computing, and ergalics. Our faculty and students collaborate in interdisciplinary research across the university and across the world.

I invite you to browse our website to understand what we do and why we enjoy doing it so much.
