Software Distribution
Version 2.0 of the Scout operating system is available at scout.tar.gz
(20.1MB compressed, 71.2MB uncompressed). This version includes a
version of Joust which is compatible with the final Toba 1.0 release.
It also features a simplified installation and build procedure for the
Intel Pentium platform.
Hardware Requirements
Scout runs on the following hardware configurations:
- Intel
- Pentium or newer with PCI bus
- Digital
- AXPpci33 (noname) with SRM firmware
- AlphaPC64 (cabriolet) with SRM firmware
- PCI Devices
- Digital TGA graphics card (21030 chipset)
- Diamond Stealth 3D 3000 video card (S3 ViRGE/VX chipset)
- Digital DE425/DE434/DE435/DE500 (tulip) ethernet adaptors
- NCR 53C810 SCSI chipset
- Matrox Meteor video capture board
Build Environment
Scout depends on the following software environment:
- RedHat 5.0 Linux (2.0.32 kernel)
- gcc 2.7.2 (modified for alpha and included in distribution)
- gmake 3.74
- kgdb 4.16 (modified and included in distribution)
- Perl 4
Network Appliances
The distribution includes the modules and configuration files needed
to build the following network appliances:
The configuration files needed to build these appliances can be found
in directory sys/templates/appliances of the distribution.
The Joust configuration depends on a Java bytecode compiler
distributed as part of the Sumatra project.
Sumatra currently supports Java 1.0.2.
