Non-linguistic Reasoning and Inferring

Abstract:

Animal reasoning is a useful starting point to understand some aspects of human reasoning. In my talk I discuss several brain-based principles conjectured as valid across a range of animals with reasoning powers, and then describe what would be expected in the brain of a chimpanzee performing the 2-sticks paradigm. I conclude with some comments on further development to help explain the inferential powers of a 1-year old infant.
