"Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy."
Siegbert Tarrasch

Chess

I love to play chess, and try to play regularly at regional tournaments and the Eastside Chess Club. (The club meets Wednesdays, 6-10pm, at the Jewish Community Center on River and Dodge. For more information on local chess, see the Southern Arizona Chess Association.) Stop by sometime for a friendly game.

I used to play actively in high school and college, but stopped once I entered graduate school. (My best result was sharing first place in the 1983 Arizona State Junior Championship with Richard Ketcham.) After not playing in a tournament for almost fifteen years, during Christmas break of 1998 I played in the Atlanta Open and was once again bitten by the chess bug.

Below are links to some chess-related sites, and to a collection of my games from tournaments. Enjoy!

'Tis all a chequer-board of nights and days
Where destiny, with men for pieces, plays,
Hither and thither moves, and mates, and slays,
And one by one, back in the closet, lays.
