The University of Arizona
Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter

Officers' Meeting
August 28, 2001

Meeting opened at 5:00 p.m.

ATTENDANCE

Matt Johnson, Andy Lenards, Teena Werley, Jennifer Sartor, Stuart Reges, Pookie the garden gnome.

BYLAWS

Teena waited to submit the charter until the beginning of the Fall 2001 semester to ensure that there would not be any last minute changes. It was the agreed that the submitting officers will remain the same even though there would be an upcoming election so as to expedite the charter approval.

EVENT PLANNING GOALS

REGIONAL CODING COMPETITION

We would like to plan host a ACM Rocky Mountain Region Coding Competition. Stuart has gotten the okay from Pete Downey.

Stuart will look into the details of what ACM will require of us in order to host the competition

Possible competitors: ASU (ACM student chapter seems inactive), NAU, and New Mexico schools

Stuart also applied for the IEEE Computing Design Contest but because of the IEEE's desire for an international competition, our application was not accepted.

FALL 2001 TALKS

Possible list of candidates/topics:

GENERAL MEETING

When: Sept. 20, 2001

Andy will verify with Cara Wallace on scheduling GS 701 for an upcoming General Meeting.

GATT will ask the department for catering/food.

ELECTION

Since elections did not occur last spring semester because of low turnout, new officer will be elected early this semester, hopefully by the first or second meeting.

People who would like to run for an office will send e-mail to Stuart nominating themselves and including a short description of themselves that will be posted to the ACM website. At a specified time, students can send e-mail to Stuart casting their vote for officers. Note that any student can participate in voting; you need not be a member of the national ACM to vote.
