Meeting opened at 1:00 p.m.

INTRODUCTION
By Stuart Reges and Andrew Lenards:
- ACM is the worlds first scientific and educational computing society; founded
in 1947
- ACM is now a international body consisting of over 80,000 members
- ACM members include the all CS Department's faculty
- ACM has Special Interest Groups (SIGS) for fields such as Computer Science
Education (SIGCSE), Graphics (SIGGRAPH), and Programming Languages (SIGPLAN)
- Founding members of the 2000 Student ACM Chapter: Kelly Heffner, Andrew
Lenards, Jennifer Sartor and Teena Werley
BENEFITS
- Annual ACM dues are significantly less; $17 or $38 as opposed to $100+
for regular members
- Opportunities to attend conferences such as OOPSLA at reduced rates
- Opportunities to participate in regional, national and international coding
competitions
- Access to ACM publications such as Communications of the ACM and Crossroads,
which is published by ACM student members.
- Access to the ACM Digital Library

- Chair:

- Nominations from the floor for Chair: Andrew Lenards by Teena Werley
- Vote count: Matt 10, Teena 7, Jennifer 6, Andrew 2, Total 25.
- Matthew Johnson elected to the position of Chair
- Vice - Chair:
- Self nominations for Vice-Chair: Andrew Lenards
- With no other nominations for Vice-Chair, Andrew Lenards elected to
position of Vice-Chair
- Secretary:
- Self nominations for Secretary: Sarah Sharlit and Teena Werley
- Vote count: Sarah 11, Teena 15, Total 26 (Discrepancy on total due
to additional member entering the meeting late)
- Teena Werley elected to the position of Secretary
- Treasurer
- Self nominations for Treasurer: Jennifer Sartor and Eve Tzinas
- Vote count: Jennifer 8, Eve 18, Total 26
- Eve Tzinas elected to the position of Treasurer
COMMITTEES
- Discussion of possible committees to be formed and their function
- Coding Competition Committee
- T-Shirt Committee
- Funding Committee
- Philanthropy Committee
- Webpage Committee
- Various Events/Programs Committees
- Other committees will be appointed as needed
CODING COMPETITION
- An ACM Student Chapter Coding Competition is planned for Saturday, October
21, 2000 - A committee will be appointed to administer the competition
- The top three teams, consisting of 3 members each, will go to the Rocky
Mountain Regional Programming Competition in November 4, 2000.
T-SHIRTS
MEMBERSHIP DUES/FUNDING
- A committee on fund-raising could be appointed to assist Eve in soliciting
and generating funds for the chapter for items such as T-shirts, travel expenses
for members going to competitions and conferences
- Dues and their amount of the dues and whether any perks such as a ACM T-shirt
need to be decided.
WEBPAGE
- Matthew Ferguson, Steven Kobes, and J. Matt Peterson volunteered to do
the webpage for the chapter
- Matthew and Stuart will obtain account space and cgi privileges
OPERATIONS
- Teena will obtain information on UA Trademarks & Licensing for the
webpage, t-shirts and any publications.
- Andy Lenards has some draft logos for ACM up at
http://www.goodnet.com/~lenards/acm
- Logos, alternate names for the chapter, motto, etc. to be decided at a
later date.
- Teena will set up a mailing list for all members using the CCIT's Listserv
CALENDAR
- Officer's meeting Friday, October 6, 2000 at 3:00 p.m., in Stuart's Office
- "How to apply to grad school" seminar hosted by Stuart Reges, Monday, October
9, 2000 at noon. Location TBA
- Next general assembly meeting, Saturday, October 15, 2000 at 1:00 p.m.
Vice-Chair Andy Lenards will not be in attendance since he will be at OOPSLA
and Secretary Teena Werley will also not be in attendance.
- 1st Annual UA ACM Student Chapter Coding Competition, Saturday,
October 21, 2000
