Special Meeting Minutes
Coding Competition
October 6, 2000

Meeting opened at 3:15 p.m.

ATTENDANCE

Matthew Johnson, Teena Werley, Eve Tzinas, Andy Lenards, Jennifer Sartor, Stuart Reges.

FUNDING

Possible Donations from outside sources to pay for regionals' trip expenses:

TRAVEL

Stuart will check with Pete on the possibility of getting blank booked airline tickets since we won't know the names of the people going to Denver until October 21st.

Eve will contact her travel agent

Travel details: Leaving Tucson or Phoenix on November 3, 2000, after 5 pm. Returning November 5th

REGIONAL COMPETITION IN DENVER

Stuart will find out about the programming environment, programming languages allowed, development platform (e.g. Code Warrior), number of problems, and time allowed at the regional level

LOCAL COMPETITION

We want to emulate the regional competition as much as reasonably possible for our local one in October

Teena reviewed some of the problems encountered during the WICS Spring 2000 coding competition.

Security issues need to be addressed.

Stuart will as for volunteers among the faculty to judge/administer the competition.

All problems and/or solutions will be handled by Stuart to free up any officers/committee members who wish to compete.

OPERATIONS

A flyer needs to be created to announce the competition with the following information: date (Oct 21st) , time (1 pm), length (4 hours), languages (TBA), place (Harvill lab)

A webpage taking signups will be created by Teena.

The webpage will also have the rules of the competition posted.

GENERAL MEETING TIME

Due to a conflict with the CS Department's picnic, the Student General Meeting has been moved to Tuesday, October 17, 2000 6:30 p.m. in GS 701
