INTRODUCTION

* Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's first scientific
 and educational  computing society; founded in 1947
* ACM is now a international body consisting of over 80,000 members
* ACM members include all CS Department's faculty
* ACM has Special Interest Groups (SIGS) for fields such as Computer
 Science Education (SIGCSE), Graphics (SIGGRAPH), and Programming Languages
(SIGPLAN)
* UofA Student Chapter Founded 2000 by
     Kelly Heffner, Andrew Lenards, Jen Sartor, and Teena Werley

ACM STUDENT CHAPTER BENEFITS

* Annual ACM dues are significantly less; $19 or $42 (with digital library)
 as opposed to $100+ for regular members. We have application forms.
 Officers must be members.
* Opportunities to attend conferences such as OOPSLA at reduced rates
* Opportunities to participate in regional, national and international
 coding competitions
* Access to ACM publications such as Communications of the ACM and
 Crossroads, which is published.
* by ACM student members.
* Access to the ACM Digital Library.
* Be part of a group that organizes events for students interested in
 computing and its applications while providing opportunities to learn,
 teach, promote camaraderie, socialize, and have some fun.
