2014/05/16 11:40 a.m.: Here are the final scores. To minimize privacy concerns, my grading program only shows the final exam score, final course average, and course grade. This class was unusual in that high scores, on exams especially, seemed hard to come by. On the final, for example, the 'raw' highest score was 87 -- no one got an 'A'. Even more unusual: Only one student had an 'A' for the class. When that sort of thing happens, I start to question whether or not the class was too challenging. There's nothing I can point to that screams "Yes!" to me, but if I assume that I'm overlooking something, I should make an adjustment to be safe. So, I did: Everyone who took the final had 5 points added to their final exam score. Why 5? That's half of a letter grade on the exam, which seems pretty generous. Note that this further rewards people who improved on the final over one of their midterms, because the final replaces that lower midterm. Thus, a higher final exam score can also mean a higher midterm score, and an even bigger boost to the final class average. The final exam score column and the histogram at the bottom both include this five point addition. The syllabus says that I might lower letter-grade cut-offs at the end of the semester. While this five-point addition isn't a direct lowering, it has the same effect, but also has that extra reward for improving over one of the midterms. After that, I pulled the 9 final exams of those students who were pretty close to the next higher letter grade and reviewed them to make sure those exams weren't misgraded. Sorry, folks -- nothing changed. If someone's getting a 'B', for example, someone's got to be the one getting the highest 'B'. If it helps: If I hadn't made the adjustment, you'd still be getting the same grade; you didn't lose anything. I hope you enjoyed and got a lot out of the class. Have a good summer! I expect I'll be seeing many of you again in the fall in 245. --lim ============================================================================= Class: CSc 227, Program Design and Development (Spring,2014) Section: 001 (All) Final Exam Grade Final Course IDENTIFIER (100 points) Course Average Grade ------------------------------------------------------------- 044869 92 92.89 A 166287 91 90.69 A 891179 90 90.36 A 531589 87 89.75 A 032002 88 89.53 A ------------------------------------------------------------- 056840 74 88.68 B 528197 87 88.60 B 459327 75 88.17 B 926185 78 87.80 B 014482 79 87.72 B 500465 71 87.61 B 166138 80 87.55 B 064651 73 87.35 B 972315 74 86.99 B 214028 78 86.65 B 638209 87 86.56 B 124559 74 85.68 B 038148 80 84.77 B 697052 77 84.13 B 887287 59 83.72 B 769982 76 83.47 B 000366 78 83.41 B 771790 76 83.22 B 737571 68 82.88 B 266867 84 82.72 B 205784 77 81.91 B 834148 72 81.73 B 539087 80 80.56 B 962518 84 80.29 B 006924 64 79.55 B ------------------------------------------------------------- 429875 69 79.13 C 152534 82 79.04 C 762241 70 78.71 C 794668 70 78.69 C 792036 68 78.58 C 069070 67 78.30 C 612920 68 78.05 C 980150 83 77.80 C 581919 64 77.13 C 062969 77 76.83 C 639740 69 76.04 C 163533 71 75.21 C 526937 79 74.74 C 772013 79 73.11 C 690968 62 72.65 C 424954 55 72.11 C 235019 53 72.04 C 804907 63 71.90 C 020109 74 70.80 C 859335 58 70.59 C 206451 70 70.09 C ------------------------------------------------------------- 465511 63 69.50 D 505327 55 69.01 D 157326 54 68.98 D 057842 62 66.79 D 162011 66 66.53 D 579040 48 65.76 D 535784 70 64.47 D 849293 70 63.98 D 468851 67 63.77 D 385856 35 62.95 D ------------------------------------------------------------- 916489 48 58.79 E 047808 46 52.70 E 534082 30 44.92 E 976791 39 42.79 E 640649 37 40.95 E 993762 27 38.49 E 830536 18 14.24 E ------------------------------------------------------------- Class Averages: 68.22(68.22%) 65.10 Class Std.
