High school students’ motivation and engagement with an online tutoring system for SAT-Math problem solving

Online learning is becoming increasingly prevalent in classrooms, yet students do not always use instruction software effectively. For example, students may try to “game” the software to avoid effort and, as a result, fail to learn the material. I will describe our work on using students’ beliefs about their mathematics proficiency and their actions with the keyboard to estimate their engagement with learning while using a web-based instruction system for SAT-Math problem solving.
