Detecting Large-Scale Route Leak Event

Prefix hijacking events have been widely reported and are a serious problem in the Internet. Among all prefix hijacking events, large-scale route leak events are the major threat. Our study focuses on the detection of large-scale route leak events. We proposed several detection schemes to detect large amount of false announcements made by an AS within a short duration of time due to intentional or unintentional reasons. We will present our detection result for 2008 by using the historical BGP update and announcements data.
