The JapanCS Project is part of the Department of Computer Science at The University of Arizona . The goal of this project is to increase the accessability of Japanese scientific and technical information related to computing and computer science. To accomplish this, project personnel have undertaken several activities to collect and disseminate information. One source of information is the Japanese technical literature, so the project subscribes to a number of mainstream CS journals and enters their table of contents information on-line for electronic access. Another source is the collection of reports from the Tokyo office of the Asian Technology Information Program (ATIP) , headed by Dr. David Kahaner. The JapanCS Project keeps a complete set of the public portions of the ATIP reports for electronic access. The archive also contains a complete set of the earlier Kahaner Reports , NSF reports and program announcements , and various other reports and information related to Japanese computing technology.

This information is disseminated using three complementary techniques: the USENET newsgroup comp.research.japan , the related mailing list res-japan-group , and this electronic archive, which is accessible via both the World Wide Web (WWW) and anonymous ftp. Using these techniques, any individual with access to electronic mail and/or the Internet has a way to access the collected information.

The JapanCS Project is directed by Rick Schlichting and sponsored in part by a grant from the Office of Naval Research. WWW site maintenance and updates for the JapanCS Project are performed by Jon Meyer and Steve Kang.
