Funding Opportunities

PhD Funding Opportunities

The department guarantees funding for first-year doctoral students, and make every effort to fund doctoral students who maintain satisfactory progress toward their degree for the duration of their program of study. While funding cannot always be guaranteed, we are proud that 100% of our current PhD students receive funding in the form of Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships, and Fellowships. The department offers a wide variety of fellowships to graduate students, including:

NSFIGERT Fellowships in Comparative Genomics— open to US citizens or permanent residents and includes a competitive annual stipend, full tuition, health insurance, travel allowance, and research funds. The fellowship lasts for a period of two years, after which the student's advisor continue funding. An additional IGERT application is necessary.

UAScienceUA Science Fellowships — open to all applicants, regardless of citizenship, and includes tuition and registration. The fellowship lasts for a period of two years, after which it is expected that the student's advisor will continue funding.

Big AUA Graduate College Fellowship — available to all applicants, regardless of citizenship, and includes tuition, registration, and a $10,000 stipend. The fellowship lasts for a period of one year, after which the student will receive either a teaching or research assistantship.

Big ATeaching Assistantships (TA’s) and Research Assistantships (RA’s) — available to all applicants and include a minimum salary of $15,000 per academic year. These assistantships include a tuition and registration waiver, and health insurance.

Masters Students Funding Opportunities

There are two kinds of scholarships available. These scholarships pay for out-of-state tuition (Graduate Tuition Scholarships) and/or in-state registration fees (Graduate Registration Scholarships). These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. However, please note that we do not guarantee funding for any MS student.
